⚖️ Regulatory Update — Zambia Gold Sector

The Zambian government is actively reforming the gold trading regulatory framework. Key developments as of mid-2026:

▸The Bank of Zambia is currently the sole authorised buyer of gold in Zambia. All gold produced in Zambia is required to be sold through BOZ or an authorised aggregator.
▸Zambia Gold Company Limited (ZGCL) has been appointed by the government as an aggregator to purchase gold from formalised artisanal and small-scale miners.
▸The Ministry of Mines is introducing a new licensing regime requiring separate licences for all downstream gold activities, including buying, processing, and dealing. The Minerals Regulation Commission will administer these licences.
▸A single buyer model is being implemented under which all gold mined in Zambia is channelled through one designated entity, ending the current multi-buyer structure.
▸The existing Gold Trade Act (Cap. 396) already requires a licence to deal in gold. Operating as an unlicensed gold dealer or intermediary is a criminal offence.

Our Position

We are a registered VASP. We are not currently a licensed gold dealer under the Gold Trade Act. In light of the ongoing regulatory reforms and the move towards a single buyer model, we have paused our public gold sourcing service while we assess the appropriate compliance pathway.

We are monitoring developments from the Ministry of Mines and the Minerals Regulation Commission closely. We will update this page as the regulatory position becomes clearer and as our own compliance position is confirmed.
